Electrolysis involves inserting a fine needle into the hair follicle, through which a small current is passed to destroy the root and prevent further hair growth. The follicle destruction is achieved by heat, chemical reaction or both. The method of treatment will be tailored to suit your skin type and sensitivity.
BENEFITS
How many sessions are required?
This will depend on the area being treated. Your treatment plan is something we will discuss at your initial consultation.
Are there any side-effect?
You may experience slight redness, swelling and/or irritation after treatment. This is normal and will subside within a few hours. Pin dot crusting or small scabs may also appear within the treated area. Do not pick the area at all whilst it is healing.
Will treatment hurt?
Treatment can be adapted to minimise discomfort. The general sensation is of a mild warming sensation or heat.
Before Treatment
Drink lots of water during the full course of your treatment sessions. Try avoiding chocolate, caffeine and alcohol 24 hours before treatment to promote further hydration.
Do not use Retinoids, any chemical peelings or Fillers/Botox at least one week prior to treatment.
Stay out of the sun for at least 48 hours before treatment to avoid dilation of blood vessels.
Consult your doctor
If you have any health conditions that impact your skin, heart, blood, hair growth you should always consult your physician first.
Epilation after care
Please read carefully and follow the recommendations.
We use Sterex machine and needles and the full range of Sterex hygiene products.
A good programme of hygienic home care will avoid spots and minor infections occurring.
It is very important to take extra care of the treated areas within the first 36/48 hours, giving the skin a chance to settle and to allow it to return to normal.
After treatment Sterex gel is applied, to soothe the skin and help prevent infection. Leave the area alone for the first 24 hours.
Retail size gels are available to purchase, so further applications can be made if needed. Use a cotton wool disc/pad to apply the gel, remember to use a fresh pad for each area.
Make up
Leave the skin to heal for a sufficient period of time before any make up is applied. Gentle removal of make up using unperfumed products suitable for sensitive skin types. Remember lotions are less prone to promote infections than creams products.
Exposure to U.V. Lights
It is advisable to avoid exposing the treated area to direct sunlight or sunbed sessions. If necessary, use a high factor sunscreen (50).
Bleaching
If you use a product to bleach the downy growth in between treatments, it should not be applied for at least 48 hours after a treatment.
Re-growth
Hair should not be plucked or removed with wax or cream remover in between treatments. Trim hairs with scissors instead.
Skin care
Moisturiser or thick creams should not be applied for at least 48 hours. After this time the area can be massage to promote the healing process and aid recovery in the treatment area. In some cases, a small rash or minor infection may appear. If so, use an antiseptic cream as recommended. Do not use a cortisone or steroid cream.
